How to save the full text of an article to Notion

Notion is a great reading archive — until you open a clip and find only a title and a link, and the page has since changed or gone behind a paywall. This guide shows how to keep the text, as real Notion blocks you can search, highlight and quote.

1. Set up a database that is worth clipping into

Create a database (table or gallery) called Reading or Clips with these properties: Name (title), URL (url), and optionally Author (text), Excerpt (text), Published (date), Clipped (date) and Tags (multi-select). Tools that fill properties will recognise those names; everything else you can add later.

2. The manual way: Reader Mode + paste

1. Open the article and switch to your browser's Reader Mode (Chrome: the reading-mode side panel; Safari: the reader icon in the address bar).
2. Select all, copy.
3. In Notion, create a page in your database and paste. Notion converts headings, lists and most formatting; images usually arrive as links; tables often break.
4. Fill URL and date by hand.

It works, it costs nothing, and it takes about a minute per article. It gets old on the fifth article of the day.

It asks Notion's servers to fetch the page, so on many sites — anything requiring login, paywalled content, pages rendered by scripts — the result is a bookmark: title, URL, sometimes a short excerpt. 5. Tips for a clean archive

• Clip into a database, not a plain page: properties make clips filterable ("unread", "by author", "this month").
• Add a Status property (Unread / Read / Reference) and a filtered view per status.
• Images are embedded from the original site; if a publisher blocks that, they become links — the text is still safe.
• For very long pages (whitepapers, docs), clip the sections you need with the selection mode instead of one giant page.
